Cumberland Heights’ Professionals Program (CHPP) is a highly-specialized executive drug and alcohol rehab program that helps working professionals achieve and maintain long-term recovery.
People who work in demanding, high-stress jobs have unique needs. CHPP was developed as an executive drug treatment program to address the medical, clinical and professional advocacy needs of these individuals.
Practically, this means our executive rehab patients receive the specialty services they need within the larger treatment environment of other addicted individuals and their families, who come from all walks of life.
Services are individualized and span the continuum of care. They include a comprehensive evaluation, detoxification and stabilization; primary residential care; extended residential care; and an intensive outpatient step down that assists with transitioning back into the community.
To help determine the existence of substance abuse, addiction, and mental and/or emotional health issues, comprehensive outpatient evaluation services are available to those considering entering executive alcohol rehab or executive drug treatment. CHPP’s comprehensive evaluation includes:
• Professional vocational assessment
• Professional needs review
• Drug testing
• Collateral interviews
• Addictions assessment
• Bio-psycho-social-spiritual assessment
• Family systems assessment
• History and physical examination
• Psychiatric evaluation
• Psychological and neurological testing
• Comprehensive written findings/recommendations reports
• Other specialty assessments as needed
For those who require physical or psychological stabilization, CHPP provides a more structured evaluation over a 96-hour period in an executive drug rehab residential setting. The treatment team then meets with the patient to convey findings and make a formal treatment recommendation, which may include some or all of the four treatment phases described below.
Detoxification care is directed by a team of physicians with experience in addiction medicine and psychiatry. Nurses familiar with the physical, emotional and social disorientation that often accompany treatment admission provide around-the-clock licensed nursing care.
Patients are assigned to an executive rehab counseling team with a primary counselor and case manager, who assist with referral-source coordination of care. Patients participate in daily interactive and gender-responsive education sessions about addiction and recovery, as well as in individual, group and family counseling.
Patients may be involved in specialty groups for grief, parenting, anger management, etc., depending on clinical needs. They participate in a specific process group twice a week, designed to address denial systems, stresses and environmental triggers. Specialty support groups for physicians, nurses, attorneys, etc. (available in the greater Nashville area), is also included in individualized treatment plans.
At weekly treatment plan reviews, the clinical team, including the attending physician, reviews the patient’s progress to date. This includes a review of specific executive drug rehab and executive alcohol rehab needs, including advocacy needs. Weekly physician communication with referral sources further aligns the patient’s care with his/her professional needs.
Extended care allows patients to continue their counseling work while beginning to practice recovery skills within a supportive community of their peers. They continue to participate in individual, group and family counseling, as well as adjunct therapies such as adventure-based counseling and art therapy.
Focus is placed on sober living skills, integrating into a Twelve-Step support community, mirror imaging via experiences with medical/nursing services, primary care services and family services at Cumberland Heights, and community service work. Clinical services are held at the main River Road campus, and transitional living houses are located nearby. Lengths of stay vary from 30 to 90 days based on individual needs.
For patients who remain in the Nashville area, a step-down program is available that focuses on re-integration into the community. The bridge program meets for three hours, three nights a week. Two sessions focus on assisting the executive rehab patient in processing feelings as he/she returns to home, work and community settings. The third session involves the family and focuses specifically on supporting the patient’s primary relationships during the often confusing time of early recovery.
Recovery continues long after formal discharge from our drug and alcoholism treatment center. To support this, planning for Continuing Care begins with an initial assessment. Referrals are made based on individual needs, which may include individual counseling, couples/family counseling, continued group work for the individual and/or family, specialty peer support groups for professionals, specialty 12-step groups for professionals, weekly aftercare and 12-step support groups. Patient, family and referral source active involvement is essential. Weekly communication with the referral source by both the counselor and the attending physician helps ensure a smooth transition for the professional and his/her family.
With 45 years’ experience providing quality treatment to addicted individuals and their families, Cumberland Heights is uniquely qualified to bring help and hope to addicted professionals.
