Annual Donor Report

Annual Donor Report

Every year we publish a donor report, highlighting a program or philosophy at Cumberland Heights, and thanking every individual, family, business or foundation who gave to our organization the prior year. Thank you to all who have supported and continue to support our mission.

Dear Friends of Cumberland Heights,

As I reflect on the past year and all the changes our community has been through, I can’t help but be amazed by the people who have remained steadfast in helping us with our mission – you! Your generosity has provided hope and healing to so many families during a time when the devastation of substance use disorder has taken a toll on our country. More lives are being saved every day because of your support.

When we broke ground on ARCH Academy in the spring of 2018, we had a dream of creating a wide-open space for teen boys to recover. We couldn’t achieve that dream alone, so we asked for your support through the Capital Campaign. And wow – did you ever come through! We closed out 2021 with an amazing end-of-year fundraising opportunity. Thanks to a generous donor, all new gifts to the campaign received in December were matched dollar for dollar up to a total of $250,000. This matching challenge was very successful, and we anticipate reaching our $6M goal by the end of 2022.

You also helped us put resources into the Cumberland Heights Research Institute, allowing us to measure and monitor patients while in treatment and post-discharge. Data collected from this process helps us identify the best treatment plans to meet the unique needs of our patients. It also helps us better support them as they continue their journey toward lifelong recovery. This year’s Annual Donor Report highlights some the key data collected and shows you how we’ve been able to use those outcomes to help more families recover life. We’re so excited to share with you how your support is transforming families.  Thank you.

In gratitude,

Jay Crosson

Dear Friends of Cumberland Heights,

We learn in recovery to let go of the things we cannot control, and did we ever have a lesson in that the past couple of years. Your support has not wavered, even during the most unpredictable times. It hurt us to have to cancel the many gatherings and community events that make Cumberland Heights so special. When we had to change protocols for admitting and caring for patients, you made sure we had what we needed to continue to bring hope and healing to those struggling. From Telehealth visits, to virtual group meetings, and online fundraisers, you’ve stuck it out. We cannot thank you enough for your steadfast support and passion to transform lives through recovery at Cumberland Heights. We look forward to the next year being brighter.

Gratefully,

Jay S. Crosson, CEO

Dear Friends,

Something special that I’ve always believed sets Cumberland Heights apart from other treatment centers is the community we’ve built. The connection we have to the individuals and families who started Cumberland Heights and made it a reality in the 1960s is still strong more than 50 years later. We have staff who have served passionately here for 20 plus years, and alumni who still loyally attend our Aftercare decades after completing the program. Cumberland Heights had a similar impact on me. I also went through the program several years ago, and it has been my honor and privilege to work for the last 27 years at the place that saved my life.

Creating this community has been deliberate, and you’ve made it possible through your support of Cumberland Heights, ARCH Academy and Still Waters programs. As loyal donors, you  understand more than anyone that recovery is a life-long journey. Your generous gifts allow us to walk with alumni as they navigate their first year of sobriety, offer a variety of social events to keep alumni engaged, and make it possible for Cumberland Heights to be present in the community – educating young people about the disease of addiction. Thank you for providing hope and healing to struggling families through steadfast and state-of-the-art treatment at Cumberland Heights. You have changed so many lives and helped create promising futures for individuals and families for generations to come.

Gratefully,

Jay S. Crosson, CEO

Dear Friends,

Gifts from generous donors like you make healing possible each year for hundreds of individuals and families who come to us to recover their lives from addiction. Your donations help us to enhance our services, provide patient assistance funding, improve our capital facilities and educate the community on the disease of addiction.

In this report, we have highlighted a few of the experiential therapies we use in treatment. These non-traditional therapies give the counselors ways to meet the patients where they can best relate and express themselves. The counselors can then address repressed feelings and emotions and give the patients ways to face issues or triggers without turning to drugs and alcohol.

Know that when a patient gets the chance to pick up a paint brush or play their own song, as part of a therapeutic activity, you have helped to make it possible. Your gift helps change lives one patient, one family at a time and creates a ripple effect for generations to come.

Sincerely,

Jay Crosson, Chief Executive Officer

Dear Friends,

Every morning when I drive through Cumberland Heights’ arched gates, I am thankful for the opportunity to help patients and families “recover life.” And every night when I leave, I am reminded to “Let go and let God,” and am grateful for the thousands of little things our staff members do each day as they walk new paths of recovery with our patients.

What our entire Board of Directors and I appreciate most is the generosity of the Cumberland Heights community – donors and volunteers alike – who support our mission. Throughout the pages of this report, you will see how much Cumberland Heights has grown since we started in 1966 with only three patients and a handful of staff.

Everything we accomplish is because of donors like you and the hundreds of others who generously give to Cumberland Heights every year. Thank you for helping change the lives of our current patients, families, alumni and all those who will seek our help in the years to come.

Sincerely,

Jay Crosson, Chief Executive Officer

Dear Friends,

Thank you for your gifts to Cumberland Heights in 2016. Your generosity enabled us to offer a foundation for recovery to those seeking our help. For more than 50 years, we’ve played a major role in helping build foundations and impacting lives for the thousands who have passed through our gate. We couldn’t have done it without the caring support of our community.

With strong leadership from our Board and staff, we’ll continue to expand in the next 50 years, offering many more patients an opportunity to recover life.

This donor report shares with you our achievements and recognizes those who partnered with us. Thank you for helping us build a place where many come to recover life…thank you for making a difference and changing hundreds of lives of individuals and their families today and for decades to come.

Sincerely,

Jay Crosson, Chief Executive Officer

What gifts we all have the most precious of which is each other – that we have one another and can help one another. Miracles happen, and they happen to us.
