What is Intensive Outpatient Treatment?
Cumberland Heights’ Intensive Outpatient Program in Jackson is designed for people whose needs and schedules vary. A quality intensive outpatient drug and alcohol rehab program will be designed to treat the whole person, not just the addiction.
Prior to enrollment in the program, all patients complete an admission process and receive orientation including a review of patient expectations, safety guidelines, and pr
ogram components. During treatment each patient works closely with their counselor/case manager in planning treatment goals and developing an individualized treatment plan. The counselor coordinates and collaborates with referrals for ancillary health, vocational or psychological needs the patient may have.
The Jackson Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is structured to include individual counseling, experiential learning groups, family education groups, and group counseling. A range of topics is discussed in treatment including, but not limited to medical aspects of addiction, disease progression, family disease, spirituality, recovery tools and relapse prevention. Patients are oriented to the Twelve Steps of Alcoholics/Narcotics Anonymous and participation in local twelve step support groups is required. Patient families are strongly urged to complete the family program. Compliance with abstinence is monitored through the use of random urine drug screens. A patient’s length of stay is usually 28 sessions but can be variable based upon the patient’s clinical needs and progress. Continuing care services, including onsite aftercare groups, are coordinated onsite for patients after completing the program.

Jackson Outpatient Office In the News:
Cumberland Heights Recognizes Excellence in Jackson Outpatient Office
Jackson Intensive Outpatient Staff Ruth Meyer and Christie Dotson recently received recognition for outstanding patient satisfaction, leading all Cumberland Heights outpatient offices in this important measure. While all patient satisfaction scores exceed 95% in all locations, Jackson office consistently, quarter by quarter, registers strong confidence of families and patients who visit.
As the field of addiction recovery evolves, evidence is pointing out therapeutic alignment – meaning the counselor and the patient are working on the same goals – has proven to be one of the most important factors predicting sustained recovery. According to Randal Lea, Executive Director for Cumberland’s Community Based Programs, “Nothing is more important in early recovery than keeping a patient engaged in their recovery, and counseling staff that puts rapport ahead of giving advice will be more successful.” Lea adds, “Christie and Ruth have shown they are able to let the patient set the pace for their growth and to take ownership over their recovery process.”
Cumberland Heights, celebrating its fiftieth year of operation, has been serving the Jackson community for over fifteen years.
