Dear Cumberland Heights Supporters,
Healing from a substance use disorder doesn’t happen overnight. Those struggling with addiction and other co-occurring disorders like anxiety and depression deserve the very best care, throughout all stages of recovery.
The last couple of years have been hard on those suffering from chemical dependency and other health illnesses. There has been a dramatic increase in Americans being diagnosed with anxiety and depression, and overdose deaths are on the rise.
Your critical support helps build the continuum of care services that patients need. Your generosity allows our expert clinical staff and recovery care advocates to walk alongside patients as they navigate their new life, free from substances. The scholarships you make possible help those struggling experience Cumberland Heights’ 90 days of professional care, followed by several months of peer supported recovery. Data collected by our Research Institute confirms that this model of ongoing care leads to better and long-lasting outcomes for those seeking treatment.
Your donation is needed more than ever to help those struggling find a path to healing and wholeness. Your gifts ensure hope is not lost for those who are experiencing darkness.
Thank you for your passion to transform lives and support long-term recovery.
In gratitude,
Jay Crosson

ARLO’S STORY
Arlo checked into Cumberland Heights in November of 2019 after a long battle with addiction that lasted most of his teenage years. When asked by his counselors what his plan was after the residential program, he responded that he was going to return to his college apartment. His counselors explained that going back to the same environment that fueled his addiction could hurt his recovery, so they suggested another option – Still Waters for Men, Cumberland Heights’ 12-Step immersion program. Arlo followed this suggestion and spent nine months in the program building a foundation for long-term recovery. According to Arlo, “I don’t think I would still be sober today if I didn’t go to Still Waters. My best friends are guys I met in the program, and we still support each other today. It’s the best decision I ever made.” Arlo believes allowing himself that extra time to dive deep into the spiritual principles has kept him active in many of Cumberland Heights’ continuum of care services today. Arlo is also proud to work in the patient registration department at Cumberland Heights.
A History of Our Bell
Adventure Therapy is a favorite among our patients. The freedom that comes from “letting go” during the exercises is often a spiritual experience. Many patients spend at least one full day of treatment on our ropes course. The course involves our giant swing, the catwalk, and what’s pictured here – the leap of faith. Arlo, a Cumberland Heights alumnus, got to participate in this exercise on his last day of residential treatment. He climbed the wooden pole on the hill and took a leap into recovery, ringing the bell as he jumped. How thrilling to hear the sound of freedom, as one begins a new life, free from addiction!

A story of wholeness and healing you helped write….
“I started having anxiety when I was 16 so drinking became medication for me. When that stopped working, I started mixing alcohol with Xanax, yet the panic attacks continued. I knew I needed to go to treatment when I told a friend that my dreams of having a family wouldn’t be possible because I knew I couldn’t be sober for nine months. Checking into Cumberland Heights was the greatest decision of my life. The staff there gave me a safe place to land. There, I was able to discover why I started having anxiety in the first place. I was able to face past traumas and get very honest with myself. When I was using, there was no way I could get on stage and perform without being under the influence. My first sober performance was on the Cumberland Heights campus. The program saved my life and made me a better musician. Now, two years sober, I’ve only had one panic attack since leaving Cumberland Heights and I was able to manage it without substances. Cumberland Heights is not just a rehab. The caring, compassionate staff treats the whole person, not just their addiction. I am so grateful for the tools they equipped me with to lead a full life in recovery.”
