Most people are aware traditional therapy is verbal. It has been referenced as “the talking cure.” But at Cumberland Heights, words aren’t always enough. Our fifty years of experience have taught us to use a number of paths to help you get where you want to go.
Adventure Based and Expressive Therapies offer abstract counseling methods to help you grasp recovery concepts—some not easily defined.
What does unmanageability mean? What does willingness look like? These therapies help you find out.
Each activity is designed for you to experience a specific recovery concept and is facilitated by a staff member with special training in the safety, mechanics and therapeutic nature of these unique therapeutic experiences.
With the proper instruction and guidance you will have an opportunity to push yourself out of your comfort zone, something we have to do regularly in recovery. They’re also a great way to learn that you aren’t in this alone. In fact, we cannot recover alone.
All of these therapies can help you move you forward in your recovery journey by connecting you to your feelings and the principles of the 12 Steps.
